Approach

Somatic Internal Family Systems / Somatic Parts Work

We all have inner worlds composed of different parts or sub-personalities. Some parts learn unhelpful or dysfunctional behaviors to try to shield us from pain and distress. Your anxiety might be a part of you that loves you SO MUCH and at one point only had the tool of anxiety to help you.

We’ll explore your parts, their fears, and what they need & want. We’ll get to know your anxiety as a part of you AND the parts of you that might be in conflict with your anxiety. We’ll work to address the core needs of your parts so we can help those parts can learn they’re safe and don’t need extreme strategies like anxiety.

Somatic Parts Work is how we’ll discover the root of your anxiety and help your body and mind no longer experience anxiety in the same way.

Evidence Based Somatic Practices & Somatic Stress Release

With 10+ years of experience as a researcher I’ve reviewed academic journals to understand what science shows us works to regulate our nervous systems, reduce anxiety, calm down, and increase resilience. I’m trained in Somatic Stress Release, a holistic modality that facilitates deepening bodily awareness, moving through activated energy, resourcing and recharging, and processing emotions in the body. We’ll develop a toolkit of mind-body practices to help you move through and soften anxiety when it shows up and preventative practices to reduce your overall level of anxiety, all based on science.

Evidence based practices will give you the tools to support yourself so when anxiety shows up it doesn’t last and ultimately result in you experiencing less anxiety.

Alchemizing Anxiety Somatic Coaching Program

  • Three 50 min one-on-one Zoom somatic coaching sessions with me a month. This is where we’ll deep dive and explore your parts, their fears, and needs, and begin to address the root cause of your anxiety. We’ll develop your mind-body toolkit and iterate based on what’s working and what’s not.

  • Tailored resources including video practices, worksheets, and video lessons. You’ll use the practices throughout your week to make it easy to engage in evidence based mind-body practices. Lessons to understand how your nervous system works. Worksheets will help you understand how it all applies to you. Each client will receive resources tailored to their needs.

  • WhatsApp messaging in between sessions. Up to 30 minutes of text and voice WhatsApps messaging in between sessions for additional support.

About Jaclyn Shea, MPH

I’ve struggled with anxiety my whole life. From age 6 feeling bad but not knowing why to wanting to cry at social events in middle school to self-medicating my way through grad school. It was a constant in my life until I found Somatics.

While therapy uses a top-down, cognitive approach, Somatics prioritizes the body and uses a bottom-up approach. Instead of intellectualizing your feelings, we’ll actually feel them. Anxiety is a symptom of nervous system dysregulation aka being in fight or flight. We cannot think our way to calm if our body feels it is in danger.

Emerging science shows that we can use our bodies to shift our nervous system state and our mind follows suit. This science and mind-body practices changed my life and I literally use them every single day.

When I discovered Internal Family Systems and Somatic Parts Work the missing piece finally clicked. My anxiety wasn’t something to get rid of or manage, it was a part of me that was soooo scared and needed to be loved and comforted. Through Somatic Parts Work I help clients understand WHY their anxiety shows up in the first place and learn to love their anxious parts.

Change takes time and over two months, six sessions, and weeks of you doing evidence based practices, I promise your relationship with anxiety won’t be the same.
