Yoga Nidra for Deep Rest
Yoga Nidra, also known as yogic sleep or non-sleep deep rest, is a powerful restorative practice. In Yoga Nidra people drop into alpha and delta brain waves, which occur during deep sleep (bodily restoring sleep) and REM sleep (cognitively restoring sleep). During Yoga Nidra you’re still conscious but experience deep relaxation and restoration. It’s like a supercharged potent nap. If a long meditation and hypnosis had a baby, it’d be Yoga Nidra. Yoga nidra has been found to decrease self-reported symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD, insomnia and biomarkers including resting heart rate, blood pressure, cortisol while also increasing dopamine and cerebral blood flow.
